Where I, Ron, blog on a variety of different subjects--social theoretical, historical, cultural, political, social ethical, the media, and so on (I got the Max Weber, the Mark Twain, and the Stephen Leacock in me)--in a sometimes Niebuhrian or ironic way all with an attitude. Enjoy. Disagree. Be very afraid particularly if you have a socially and culturally constructed irrational fear of anything over 140 characters.

Loughner's Ideology...
11 January 2011
I am fascinated by the attempt by some to paint Loughner's obsessions with the gold standard and language as power themes as so fringe that only he was obsessed with them. This is not the case, however. Many have long called for the restoration of the gold standard and many have reflected on the use of language for social and cultural control ("communist", "terrorist", "madman"). What is most interesting, perhaps, about Loughner's thought is that he seems to mesh the obsessions of John Birchers with those of Michel Foucault.
