"Joe the Plumber" is, of course, a simulation. "Joe" is a fictional character in a fictional political "reality show" created by Republican Christof's (the Christof from Peter Weir's The Truman Show) to reassure relevant target demographics that their ideologies, their ethnocentric prejudices, are all "true" .
In this Republican genre blending "reality" teleplay Obama is, at the same time, the essence of Cold War and post-Cold War evil. He is a crypto-commie, a crypto-Islamofascist, and a crypto Black Nationalist who is planning to undermine everything pure and true about America the chosen nation, America the innocent nation, America the millennial nation, and America the capitalist nation. These are all ideologically created fictions, of course. At the same time, and this is quite an achievement given the fact that it is clearly inconsistent with the conspiracy driven scenario just referenced, Obama is inexperienced and unproven and is, as a result, a threat to America's survival given that there are "enemies" out there who are chomping at the bit to take advantage of Obama's inexperience and naivete to bring down America (oh the paranoid fantasies).
Baudrillard must be smiling and enjoying himself out there somewhere. Ideology truly does create or manufacture "reality".
